Jeff’s history begins with his passion for bike riding (1980-current). Jeff competed and toured with top-ranked pros. During his competitive prime, Jeff began morphing bike frames, skateboards and surfboards into original art. Lamp construction quickly became his most prolific field thanks to his background in lighting.

In 2001, Jeff founded ListenNYC, an art gallery in the East Village. At this space, his aim was to showcase the work of local artists and provide events for such creative types to network and connect. The exhibitor’s collections included paintings, clothing design and furniture. Today, ListenNYC continues to thrive as a website community.

In 2007, Jeff was featured in The New York Times. He was acknowledged for his lighting installation at Alain Ducasse’s restaurant at the Essex House. He collaborated with Ducasse, and produced lighting to relate to the chef’s menu offerings. Jeff made square and rectangular lamps out of acrylic held together with industrial bolts. The New York Times described the pieces as “plug-in sunsets.”

The Joy of Charting

Last Friday Terry talked about some of the exciting new libraries and How To’s that we shipped with Illustrator CS4. I wanted to take time today to focus on some additional new CS4 Sample Art Files that show how Illustrator can be used to create visually intriguing, creative flow charts. Yes, you heard me right, I did say “Visually Intriguing” and “Flow Charts” in the same sentence!

Jennifer Willis is one of those rare designers who doesn’t cringe when taking on information graphics. Instead she has found a way of infusing her creative style into flow charts, while obviously having a great time doing it. Jennifer uses a variety of symbols and arrowheads that she creates. This adds a personal touch that reflects not only the designer but the client as well.

Now you can do it yourself and create some really funky stuff. I’ve had so much fun with these. I’ve included the entire illustration so you can see how it was done.

“Looks Distorted!” If your result looks really distorted try flipping the brush. To do this:

• Double click the selected brush in the brush pallet

• Check Flip Along (or Flip Across)

• Click OK

• Click Apply to Strokes

Note: If you’ve used the brush already you may want to create a duplicate from the fly out menu and then flip the brush. That way the change does not affect the rest of your work).

Saving as a Brush Library - To save the as a Library:

• Select Save Brush Library from the Fly out menu.

• Save.
